I've given up on trying to keep a common bookmark list on the 4+ computers I use. So here, for primarily my use (but you're welcome to it), are the links I find useful enough to keep around. These will open up in a new window, so click away!

Applescript Links

AppleScripts for Tex-Edit Plus
Tex-Edit home page
MacScripter.net. Mostly Applescript. handy place.
Apple--AppleScript

Hypercard, not applescript:
Frederic Rinaldi home page. When Laura and I worked at DTSC, we licensed a bunch of Rinaldi's XCMDs for Hypercard. I generally use Applescript now, but sometimes I drag out Hypercard, and Rinaldi's the source of many handy XCMDs.

Bicycles

Rivendell Bicycle Works home page. The Best stuff you can get; if they carry it, it's good.
Or go directly to Rivendell's online catalog.
Harris Cyclery. They have a lot of detailed information about the products they carry. If Rivendell doesn't have it, Harris might.

While commercial lights are good, I seem to have the worst luck with them, and they're not made for easy end-user repair. So I'm looking into what it takes to make a set on my own.
Make your own lights is a link my buddy Pureheart sent to me. The info looks good but I haven't checked it out completely.
Batteries that can be used for bicycle light systems.

Hostel Shoppe Recumbents. The carry all the oddball tire sizes, as well as hard-to-find accessories for recumbents.

WhymCycles: Peter Wagner created WhymCycles maybe ten, fifteen years ago. This links to some photos of his works.

Floor Lamps

I'm still looking for a good, complete source for old lamp parts. Grand Brass Lamp Parts comes pretty close.
So does Mainely Shades.

I'm a sucker for the old-style floor lamp but the supply around here has dried up. If you have one to give away, let me know.

Macintosh

My two favorites:
As the Apple Turns.I treat myself to this site every day right before lunch. And if they haven't updated their page by then, the rest of my day is spoiled.
MacSurfer's Headline News Your first stop of the day.

the next set: MacInTouch Home Page
Mac Managers' website
TuCows Mac; where you go to find out what shareware's what
Mac OS Rumors.
MacFixIt (Home Page)
Deal-mac
MacCentral. I like these folks a lot less now that they have pop-behind ads.

MacWindows

Think Secret

Political

Air America Radio; if a station's not near you, they have a streaming RealPlayer version. It sure is nice to listen to this instead of what you normally get on the radio.
Alternet.org, a project of the Independent Media Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and supporting independent and alternative journalism. First launched in 1998, AlterNet's online magazine provides a mix of news, opinion and investigative journalism on subjects ranging from the environment, the drug war, technology and cultural trends to policy debate, sexual politics and health issues.
Working For Change. Another good source of information.
Information Clearinghouse. The news that doesn't make it into newspapers or television.
Media Matters

Michael Moore's website.
True Majority
FAIR (the national media watch group) is an anti-censorship organization that exposes neglected news stories and defends working journalists when they are muzzled.
See a counter for the cost of the Iraq war. This page also shows what the money could have been used for.

Design
I don't do much web design anymore...at work I web-enable Filemaker databases, and since I'm the only one there who does that sort of thing I'm always backlogged. All I really have time to do is to get the thing working, then move on to the next one. I should start cracking on XML. Oh well.

Web usability A good read every other week or so.
The World Wide Web consortium.

HTML Validators
My favorite validator.
Want to validate your HTML? Try something listed here!

Style Sheets
WWWC's style sheet home page. The scoop on style sheets from the organization that should know.
Want info on style sheets? What works, what doesn't? Rich will tell you!

HTML Assistance
Web Design Group's HTML Help page. Handy if you can't remember exactly what that tag does or how its used.
Web Page Design for Designers. More on design, less on technology.

Reference (General)

Webster's dictionary/thesaurus. If you want that word and can't find your dictionary.
Encyclopedia Britannica. Have to click a lot to read an article though.

The Straight Dope. "Fighting ignorance since 1973 (it's taking longer than we thought)" is their motto.

VW Parts

My 1986 Diesel VW Golf is still chugging along with over 270,000 miles. When I bought the car I swore I'd never work on a car again, but times change (and the shop I took it to for all those years started screwing up too many times). So here I am again, working on an old car. When I needed a part I just did a google search and these came up.
Discount Vdub Parts. This is the only one I've actually ordered from.
Auto Parts Authority.
Discount Auto Tools.
Drivewerks.

Other

No Sweat apparel; union made clothing.
California Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board. Before I switched jobs in May 2001, I was the webmaster for the CVC&GCB. Now there's e-gov standards that mandate the look and feel for all State of California websites. I'm glad I'm not the webmaster anymore, as the state-provided templates aren't valid HTML (try running any page with the new look and feel through a validator listed above...!).
El Dorado Transit...when I need to check a bus schedules.
Sacramento Regional Transit...for the Sacramento bus schedules
Solar Cookers International; years ago I made a solar cooker based on their plans. I liked it, but after a few seasons the cardboard started showing its age and I never rebuilt it. I may put that project into my project queue.
State of California jobs. Yeah, I'm always looking.
Morris Minor page

Powerpoint is evil, but you knew that already.
Back in high school, our German teacher would make us sing songs in German once a week. "You have thick skins, so come up to the front of the class". Doing so was supposed to help us remember cases or some such thing. Here, for anyone who used to be in my classes, are the words to two of his favorite songs:
Blau Wie Das Meer, and Seemann.
I wanted to put the following sentence where I could find it. I think it came from www.useit.com, but I didn't write the source down. Nevertheless, here it is:
...[T]he vast majority of customer-satisfaction insight comes from answers to a single question: How likely is it that you could recommend [X] to a friend or colleague?
That's it!
